To combat the poverty and high unemployment rates among youth in Yemen, SPARK introduced the Agri Business Creation (ABC) programme which not only focuses on education and entrepreneurship, but strives to engage marginalised groups. Many groups such as youth, internally displaced people and ethnic minorities are excluded from economic opportunities, hampering economic growth and risking the return to conflict. Through business plan competitions, business plan development, and programme mentors coaching young entrepreneurs, business sustainability and economic development is aspired to.
Yemen is presently confronted with very serious challenges, which is putting societal stability in jeopardy. Internal conflicts and threats to agricultural production, such as the shortage of access to water, have driven SPARK to begin activities there.
