Sucdi Abdillahi Omer established her café, Cup Coffee, in the centre of Hargeisa, when she was just 26 years old. As a graduate of Economics, Sucdi has long been interested in establishing her own business. After graduating in 2012 and gaining practical work experience, she decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship in October 2016.
She began her business with four employees and quickly proved herself to be a capable businesswoman. The problems she faced with staffing issues and customer service were resolved after receiving training on management, customer care, and finance from SPARK’s Somali implementing partner, Shaqodoon, on the Local Employment in Africa for Development (LEAD) programme, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Today, Sucdi employs 14 staff (5 women and 9 men), 12 of whom work full time. She has ambitions to franchise her business and open additional branches in various locations across Hargeisa.
