Spark develops education and entrepreneurship so that young and ambitious people are empowered to lead their post-conflict society into prosperity. We build the capacity of local economic and educational institutions so they can empower their own populations. The organisation actively mobilises support for this within Dutch Society, especially with economic and educational institutions.

Transfer of Medical Students from Tetovo University Faculty Project (2006-2007)
Tetovo University(1994/2004) was a previously non-accredited Albanian university with 14 faculties. On 1 October 2004, following the Ohrid Agreement, the Tetovo State University (TSU) officially opened with 5 faculties, but without a Faculty of Medicine. Medical students organised disruptive protests. To resolve this, an agreement was signed between the Ministers of Education from Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania in January 2005, to transfer these students to Faculties in Skopje , Pristina & Tirana. The Ministry of Education of FYROM requested that Spark served as a monitoring agency to this transfer. The project made it possible for the medical students to continue their studies at the universities in Pristina, Tirana and Skopje. Read more  
International Pristina═Summer University, 2002-2004

From 2002-2004, the University of Pristina and SPARK jointly organised three very successful editions of the Pristina Summer University (PSU). Each year, the PSU brought together regional and international professors and lecturers for three weeks and provided more than 30 courses in a wide range of academic fields.

Afghanistan Education Project
In 2004, SPARK implemented a pilot training programme for young faculty in Departments of Education at universities in Afghanistan.

Europe Day Kosovo, 2005
On 9 May 2005, SPARK, the European Youth Center and the University of Pristina organised several Europe Day activities in Pristina. The programme included six parallel workshops on private sector development, EU integration and business skills. About 150 students from the University of Pristina and the rest of South East Europe participated.

Europe Day Kosovo, 2004
On 8 May 2004 the University of Pristina (UP) and SPARK organised the first ⌠Europe Day open lecture day. The theme was Kosovo's economic integration into the EU, with emphasis on the importance of regional economic cooperation.This event comprised five workshops, a lecture programme and plenary programme, as well as various social events.

Kosovo Summer University, 2001
Between 16 July and 10 August 2001, the University of Pristina and SPARK organised the first summer university in Pristina. 33 international and regional experts taught 30 intensive courses at 7 different university departments. More than 550 students from 26 countries participated in the KSU. The KSU made considerable headway in═ improving university education in Pristina.

Unit Partnership Faculty of Economics, University of Pristina, 2000-2001
A Unit Partnership project between the Faculty of Economics of the University of Pristina, Kosovo, and the Faculty of Economics and Econometrics (FEE) at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, was implemented in 2000-2001. This project was initiated by SPARK, and funded by the Open Society Institute. By means of delegation visits between the faculties, as well as two 4,5 months visits of a fellow from Pristina to Amsterdam, the project aimed to conduct an in-depth study of the possibilities for long term co-operation between the two faculties.

Serbian Delegation Visit, 2000
Between 25 November and 2 December 2000, a visit of a delegation from Serbia, consisting of four Serbian intellectuals from the Belgrade Circle, OTPOR and the Centre for Cultural Decontamination, to the Netherlands was organised. Meetings were held with prominent political figures in the Dutch Government and Parliament, representatives of EU institutions in Brussels, academics at the University of Amsterdam, publishers, the media, NGOs and other organisations. The delegation members brought with them proposals for structural cooperation between Serbian and Dutch institutions.

Environmental Course Macedonia, 2000
In co-operation with the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University - Skopje and the Ministry of Environment of Macedonia, SPARK organised a short intensive course by Prof. Dr. Egbert Tellegen of the University of Amsterdam on 19 and 21 June 2000. The title was ⌠Dutch environmental problems and policies in an international context.

International Summer University Tuzla, 1996-1998
A 3 week Summer University programme was held at the University of Tuzla during the summers of 1996, 1997 and 1998. Around 50 lecturers from all around the world taught a broad range of courses yearly. In total, approximately 1.000 people attended the courses and forums. Seminars, workshops and lectures combined teachings on recent theoretical developments with a special focus on "current issues" and the use of practical skills.

English Teaching Programme, University of Tuzla, 1995-1998
From 1995 to 1998, SPARK coordinated a programme in English as a Foreign Language at the University of Tuzla. Teachers were native speakers as well as B-H citizens. Over time, the curriculum was standardised and a small library was set up. The programme formally ended in 1998, when the University of Tuzla established its new Institute of Foreign Languages, which offers courses in English, French, and German.

Exchange Programme, University of Tuzla, 1995
An exchange programme, set up in 1995, enabled Bosnian post-graduate students and professors to work and study for a period of time at universities in Western Europe.
