Spark develops education and entrepreneurship so that young and ambitious people are empowered to lead their post-conflict society into prosperity. We build the capacity of local economic and educational institutions so they can empower their own populations. The organisation actively mobilises support for this within Dutch Society, especially with economic and educational institutions.

PSD Business Plan Competition PDF Print E-mail
Three years in a row, students and recent graduates from SEE had the opportunity to take part in SPARK Business Plan Competition and win the chance to establish their own businesses and start a successful entrepreneurial career. The competition was organized each time in two rounds and the top teams and business plans were selected and awarded.  


Round I- Submission of the business ideas/concepts and the selection of short listed candidates,
Round II- Submission of the business plans and the selection of the top three teams.


The candidates, who made it though the first round, were awarded with intensive trainings in business plan development, which were taught by experienced trainers from the Netherlands.


Business plans were accepted from:
  • Senior students (third year of studies or higher) at one of the following participating faculties: University of Tuzla, Faculty of Economics; University of Belgrade, Faculty of Economics; University of Bitola, Faculty of Economics (Prilep); University of Pristina, Faculty of Economics; University of Montenegro, Faculty of Economomics
  • Recent graduate who graduated maximum three years before submission of the business concept at one of the participating faculties;
  • Teams of maximum 5 individuals where the official applicant and contact person was a student or recent graduate from one of the participating faculties.
  • The applicants had to be citizens of one of the following countries/regions: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro or Serbia .

Business Plan Competition 2007

During the first round of the business plan competition process SPARK received more than 30 applications that were examined and evaluated by the international jury which consists of renowned international experts and successful entrepreneurs: Mr. Mehrdad Etemad, Ms Elsa Herman, Mr Nick Norvell and Ms Bernadette Blom. Out of 30 applications, 15 business ideas were shortlisted and the successful applicants were awarded a week long training in Podgorica, Montenegro, held by Mr. Gilbert Silvius. The deadline for the second round was 15 September 2007. 

Finally, top three teams were invited for the formal presentation of their business plans in front of the international jury at the Business Start-Up Center Bitola, Macedonia on 17 October 2007.

20,000 euro was available for the startup capital for the three best business plans. Prizes are to be used for the implementation of business plans or for additional (market) research. The awards were tailor made and were adjusted to the needs of the each individual business plan. The winners of the BPC 2007 received not only the financial support but also full consultancy and technical advice.
