Results of Liberia Faculty Enrichment Programme PDF Print E-mail
SPARK organised the Liberia Faculty Enrichment Programme (LFEP) 2009 from 6 till 17 July 2009. The program boosted two intensive academic courses focusing on research and teaching methodologies for 83 teaching staff from universities of the Association of Liberian Universities. Organised by SPARK and the Association of Liberian Universities (ALU) this two-week long programme is supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Liberia and hosted by the University of Liberia in Monrovia.

This 2009 pilot project aimed at preparing the ground for a full yearly organized summer school or institute focusing on faculty development, starting in 2010. It calls upon highly committed teaching faculty from member universities of ALU to contribute to the improvement of university education in Liberia through the development of their own individual academic skills in the first place. This pilot provided opportunities to improve their writing, teaching and research skills through a series of intensive summer courses, thereby contributing to faculty development of ALU members.

Two specific courses offered were Research Methods and The Active Learning Classroom: Teaching and Learning for the 21st Century. Out of 83 participants who initially participated in the program, 77 met all of the attendance and assessment requirements, and were awarded certificates.
