Heilige Huisjes - A fresh light on development cooperation PDF Print E-mail
Yannick du Pont and Michel Richter, respectively director and co-director of SPARK, recently published an essay on the need for an innovative approach in the development sector, "De sector is bang en onzeker". With this essay, that was co-written by Wilma Roozenboom, owner of "Goede Dingen Doen", SPARK took part in the essay competition Heilige Huisjes, as jointly organised by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Coolpolitics and OnzeWereld. This competition is annually organised to stimulate the debate around the current status of the development sector, that is now constantly on the defense and, as a result, lacks innovation.

Addressing this trend, SPARK's essay focuses on the need for an innovative approach in the development sector. It pleads for a sector that is more confident, one that dares to be more transparent, to learn from mistakes, to take risks and to think big. Only then the impasse of fear and defense, that currenlty dominates the sector, will be broken.

In total, more than 40 essays were submitted in the competition, out of which 14 were selected to be submitted in a book, including SPARK's essay.

You can read the whole essay here (only in Dutch).
