Mitrovica Summer University

For the last three years, the Mitrovica Summer University (formerly Mitrovica Summer Courses) has successfully established and maintained bridges between the University in Mitrovica and other regional and international universities.

We are sorry to announce that while planning and funding were in place for the Mitrovica Summer University (MSU) 2009, due to circumstances beyond our control, SPARK and the University management, have decided to postpone the MSU 2009.

This is a consequence of the difficulties that arise operating in a complex post-conflict environment. SPARK and the University have agreed that running the MSU in July would not give optimal results. Therefore, further information about possible new dates will be posted on the www.my-programme.org and www.spark-online.org websites when the information becomes available.

As a student registered for the MSU 2009, please read the Frequently Asked Questions. If your query is not answered by the FAQs below, please email myp@spark-online.org. Registered students will also be contacted by email and telephone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my place still be valid at the postponed SU?
Yes. You will be contacted when applications open for the postponed Summer University and asked to confirm or cancel your place.

Will you refund my flight cancellation fee?
Yes - on receipt of proof of purchase and cancellation fee. Refund of cancellation fee claims and supporting documents should be submitted to: myp@spark-online.org.

Will you refund my whole flight cost?
Whole flight costs will only be refunded if there are no cancellation/refund options (occasionally occurs with budget flights). Flight refund claims and supporting documents should be submitted to: myp@spark-online.org.

How long will it take for me to receive my refund?
One week after submission of claim and supporting documents, the MSU team will confirm whether the supporting documents are sufficient and if so, the amount that will be refunded. Up to 28 days after that confirmation, the money will be refunded by bank transfer.

How will you get my bank details?
When submitting your refund claim and supporting documents, please also attach a completed international transfer form.

What supporting documents do I need to send to receive my refund?
Proof of purchase, terms and conditions of cancellation policy and cancellation fees. Also, the completed international transfer form.

Can I go to Pristina Summer University (PSU) instead?
There may potentially be places at PSU but we are waiting to hear confirmation on that. If you are interested in attending PSU, please register your information with us by emailing myp@spark-online.org. Please note however that the PSU runs for three weeks from 12th July - 31st July so you may need to reorganize your travel arrangements.

Does PSU cost the same as MSU?
We are not sure of the price and are waiting to hear this information. However, as it runs for three weeks, we imagine it will be a little more expensive.

Continuing with the original format, the program for the fourth edition of the MSU, which will potentially take place in Autumn/Winter 2009, will bring together local and international professors and students providing an opportunity to learn and share experiences. During the Mitrovica Summer University 2009 six courses will take place on the following topics:
  1. Eastern European Environmental Protection Studies
  2. Economy/Entrepreneurship
  3. Diplomacy and Negotiation. Theory and Practice in the framework of Conflict Studies and International Relations
  4. Comparative study of Balkan Countries and EU Integration
  5. Cultural Heritage at Unease: promoting understanding between cultures through folk characters and stories.
  6. Web Design

In addition, public discussions, lectures and other interactive events on prominent issues in society will be organised. Successful participants will gain an official Certificate of the Mitrovica Summer University which includes between 3 and 4 ECTS credits. All the courses will be taught in English.

So far, the university, its student parliament, CCSD and Communities Development Centre together with SPARK have successfully organised three previous editions in which over 450 local, regional and international students participated, as well as approximately 40 local and international professors. The project is part of a wider project assisting the university in implementing the Bologna Process and has contributed to the internationalisation of the university.

Scholarships cover travel expenses, accommodation and food. Accommodation during the MSU can also be provided to students from Mitrovica who do not live in Mitrovica. Reading materials and teaching equipment are provided for free.

A course lasts 10 working days with 8 hours of daily work (including assignments and homework). The classes are interactive and include lectures, discussions, group work, field trips, assignments, papers and/or presentations. Successful participants will receive an official ECTS-compatible `Summer Courses Certificate`.

During the Summer Courses public forums and debating lounges are organised on current issues and aim at fostering discussion among participants. A recreational programme, including an opening ceremony, dinners, excursions, field trips, sports-tournaments and parties provide participants ample opportunity to meet in an informal setting.
