The first edition of the Nablus Summer Academy (NSA) was held from this year from 5 till 16 July at the An-Najah National University in Nablus. The NSA particularly aims to train intensively local and international (senior) students and young academic staff. This Summer Academy provides an opportunity for international and regional students and professors to meet and exchange ideas.
The Nablus Summer Academy 2009 offered courses in the following fields:
- International Humanitarian Law
- Public International Law
- Human Rights Law
An international professor and a co-professor from the An-Najah National University taught each course. The Summer Academy lasted two-weeks for about 75 students/participants.
The courses of this year's edition were primarily given to the regional students and young academic staff with a wider objective to improve the quality of higher education. The courses were all taught in English and approximately 2 credits were offered for each course. Visiting professors were kindly requested to make proposals for the courses explained here.
In addition, a debating program was organised on topics related to human rights, good governance, conflict and education. Also a number of informal occasions were created for all participants to share ideas, experiences and develop networks.
Visiting professors teach on a pro-bono basis. However, SPARK and the An-Najah National University cover travel expenses, accommodation and a modest allowance for basic daily operating costs.
