Only a year ago, Valton Berisha was living in
Switzerland . The 1990s were difficult times in Kosovo and Valton left Kosovo in 1992 to build a future in
Western Europe . When he heard of the entrepreneurship program of Business Start-up Centre Kosovo he decided to go back to Pristina for 3 weeks to participate in the business skills training in April 2007. In the end he completed the whole program and came up with one of the winning business plans. Since October 2007, his newly started enterprise Global Alliance network (GAN) is a fact.
Global
Alliance Network (GAN) offers consultancy and marketing services to private companies and public organizations in Kosovo. Their core business is to provide strategic and technical advice and training to SMEs and larger companies, in order to strengthen their competitiveness and increase efficiency. In October 2007 they established their office in Pristina. Their 3 biggest clients are:
-
Free Balance, a Canadian organization, to which they offer PR services
-
Minimax, which they assist in marketing
-
Verga Group, a company with offices throughout the world, which they offer international trade assistance.
Also Valton’s 2 colleagues completed the training program, both of them were working in the theatre industry, as an actor and as a small producer. “Trough BSC Kosovo I learned about entrepreneurship and gave a different direction to my life”.
The business barriers that GAN encounter mostly relate to the in-transparent legal and tax system in Kosovo. Also the constant power cuts disturb their daily operations; the photo’s below show how they regularly work with jackets and shawls on in a freezing cold office. GAN wisely invested in laptops in stead of PCs to escape the power cuts as much as possible.
Valton is realistic, but ambitious: “Doing business is a fight. But we’re working hard and expecting some big changes by the end of the year.”
Working for GAN means being up to date.
