Spark develops education and entrepreneurship so that young and ambitious people are empowered to lead their post-conflict society into prosperity. We build the capacity of local economic and educational institutions so they can empower their own populations. The organisation actively mobilises support for this within Dutch Society, especially with economic and educational institutions.

Intern Summer Universities PDF Print E-mail
SPARK is a fast growing, young, dynamic development NGO with 50 staff members in offices in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Mitrovica, Pristina and Skopje and Business Start-up Centres in Kosovo, Kragujevac, Zenica, Bitola and Bar. SPARK develops higher education and entrepreneurship, so that young ambitious people are empowered to lead their post-conflict society into prosperity. To achieve this, SPARK organises Summer Universities and supports young entrepreneurs to start-up their own business by means of business plan competitions, skills training and advice. We have several  projects in South East Europe, among which the International Summer University Macedonia (ISUM), the Pristina Summer University (PSU) and the Mitrovica Youth Program (MYP).


SPARK is currently looking for an intern to help with the preparation and evalution of the summer universities 2009.  The intern will be based at the Amsterdam office and will start at the beginning of October. The internship will be for either three months (full-time) or six months (part-time). Interviews with short-listed candidates will take place in September.


Main Tasks & responsibilities

  • Assist in recruiting visiting professors for the 2009 summer universities;
  • Manage student applications and their selection for the summer universities; 
  • Make an inventory of mailing lists, magazines, e-portals etc for recruitment of professors;
  • Assist in project reporting;
  • Assist in database administration;
  • Assist in development of promotion materials and activities;
  • Assist in processing evaluations of participants;
  • Assist project managers and officers on matters related to their tasks and responsibilities.

Requirements & assets:

  • Excellent oral and written language skills in English and Dutch;
  • Good communication and social skills and able to work in a multicultural setting;
  • Interest in South East Europe, academic issues and/or developmental cooperation;
  • Good team worker while able to work independently with proven organisational skills;
  • Available for three-months full-time or six-months part-time;
  • Currently enrolled in a University or Hogeschool in the Netherlands;
  • Willing and able to travel to South East Europe;

SPARK offers:

  • International and dynamic working experience;
  • Part-time/full-time internship contract;
  • Remuneration of 175 (0,5 fte) or 350 (1 fte) Euro/month (net);
  • (On-the-job) Training opportunities;
  • Possibility for international travel;
