The 1990s were a hard time for Kosovo. The economy experienced a recession, most people lost their jobs, and one could feel the impact of the wars in the neighboring countries. The 1990s were times of uncertainty and anxiety for the people of Kosovo, times when one didn't know what to expect of tomorrow and what the next day would bring. And those times were particularly hard for the young population of Kosovo who instead of leading a normal teenage life were forced to look for a better life somewhere outside Kosovo. Some of them left in search for a job to support their family in Kosovo and others to pursue their education which they weren't able to do in Kosovo.

Valton Berisha was no exception; he went to Switzerland in 1992 to continue his education and make a new home. The beginning was hard as Valton says "I found it hard to adapt to a completely new and different culture. I didn't speak German and that added more to my struggles of settling in"

In the beginning Valton made a living by working in farms, and construction companies until he finished the German language courses he was taking and became proficient in the German language. After he overcame the most important obstacle and learned the language he was able to attend different courses and trainings in information and technology which soon developed into his passion. As a Java programmer and a certified Microsoft Engineer he worked at different Swiss companies such as Creative Solutions, DataComm INC, Tiscali, AlbaComm GmbH bu gaining a considerable working experience.

Valton heard of BSC's competitions through his two friends who convinced him to give it a try and apply with a business plan. When he thinks back he says he would have never thought that he would be now in the preparation process of opening a business in Kosovo. Valton's group applied in the Business Plan Competition with a plan to create a new consulting company and they were selected by the jury to attend the 10 week Business Skills Training.

 Since Valton lives in Switzerland and couldn't attend all training sessions he decided to come for the first three weeks. But after attending the first week of Business Skills Training he extended his stay in Kosovo and didn't miss a single session. When asked why he suddenly changed his plan he said "At first I decided to come only for three weeks but the training was very interesting and the organization by BSCK was very professional, something I'm used to see in Switzerland and other western countries which I didn't at first expect in Kosovo. The professionalism of BSCK and their comprehensive trainings on how to run a business in Kosovo made me stay till the end of the trainings".

Valton and his friends are making the necessary preparations for an initial investment of €60,000-€100,000 as well as hiring the 13 people they planned to provide qualitative consulting services for businesses. Valton is very enthusiastic and optimistic about his new business and is convinced that it will be a success. When asked what impact did BST have on him he answered with excitement that it gave a different route in his life, he is spending more time in Kosovo, he has established new networks with people and because of the training provided by BSC he believes that his homeland is an attractive place to invest and that it has potential for economic growth.
