Private Sector Development in the Western Balkans
Economic development and EU accession are top priorities for all Western Balkan countries. Regional cooperation, friendly neighbourly relations and political stability are conditions for both of these priorities. Business Start-Up Centers in the Western Balkans
Promoting entrepreneurship is crucial in reducing poverty and promoting economic development in the Western Balkans. By acting on market opportunities, entrepreneurs create and develop the businesses that will drive economic growth and will provide the jobs that people need. However, entrepreneurial spirit and the skills to start a business are often lacking in the Western Balkans. The education often fails to encourage young people to develop entrepreneurial ideas and skills. At the same time, numerous regulatory and bureaucratic obstacles discourage potential entrepreneurs from opening businesses and prevent the growth of existing businesses. The five Business Start-Up Centers (BSCs) that SPARK supports address these issues by supporting young and ambitious (potential) entrepreneurs in the discovery of business opportunities and in the creation and development of successful businesses.
